WRC Estonia Lukyanuk wins WRC3 - Everyhting rally should be and more

20.07.2021

What a fantastic weekend it has been in Tartu, Estonia! WRC3 win for Lukyanuk and Federov with our very own Škoda Fabia Evo and not only that it was the fastest R5 car in the whole event!

The 40-year-old was on fine form from the get-go. After launching into the lead on Thursday evening’s opening Visit Estonia Tartu test, he set the fastest time over every single stage on Friday and Saturday.

Heading into the final leg with an advantage of more than three minutes, everybody expected Lukyanuk to ease off. But that didn’t happen.

Whilst the clean sheet of stage wins ended when Egon Kaur beat him in SS20, he claimed another pair of top times before a spectacular roll in the rally-ending Tartu vald blast put his hopes in jeopardy.

Luckily for Lukyanuk, his Škoda Fabia Rally2 landed back on its wheels, enabling him to stay in front of the nearest challenger Kajetan Kajetanowicz by 3min 15.9sec. The result also placed the European champion eighth overall.

“Stupid ruts caught me behind the crest, but luckily we are here. It was a fantastic weekend despite this. I hope the team will forgive me,” he added. WE DO :)

With Yohan Rossel absent this weekend, Kajetanowicz’s runner-up spot helped the Pole move to within 16 points of the championship lead.

Mikko Heikkilä claimed his second podium in as many events as third. Driving a Škoda, he ended 58.5sec back from Kajetanowicz but still a comfortable 43.5sec in front of Spanish youngster Pepe López.
