It’s no secret that a lot of people interested in motorsport have a dream, a dream that leads them to Dakar!

The adventure began back in 1977, when Thierry Sabine got lost on his motorbike in the Libyan desert during the Abidjan-Nice Rally. Saved from the sands in extremis, he returned to France still in thrall to this landscape and promising himself he would share his fascination with as many people as possible. He proceeded to come up with a route starting in Europe, continuing to Algiers and crossing Agadez before eventually finishing at Dakar. The founder coined a motto for his inspiration: "A challenge for those who go. A dream for those who stay behind." Courtesy of his great conviction and that modicum of madness peculiar to all great ideas, the plan quickly became a reality. Since then, the Paris-Dakar, a unique event sparked by the spirit of adventure, open to all riders and carrying a message of friendship between all men, has never failed to challenge, surprise and excite. Over the course of almost thirty years, it has generated innumerable sporting and human stories.

Sports Racing Technologies as a team has done many things – like for most it usually starts with one person, who gets an enormous amount of excitement and pleasure from being behind a wheel. Then it goes on to forming a team of people who are fascinated by technology and blown away by any kind of loud, fast, muddy, dusty, crazy race. When all is said and done, we are here. Practicing different kind of motorsport stages and being soaked in victory champagne.

For the first time ever, we will also try to concur Dakar and we are going to do that with our good friend Maverick – no, not Tom Cruise from Top Gun, but CanAm Maverick T3! A buggy built specially for rally-raid racing!

Till our entry in Dakar we will take our CanAm Maverick and test it, get to know it in and out, mud splashing, rain coming down harder than a beat drops on a Friday night, in several Cross-Country rallies.

This piece of machinery is your chance to come with us to Dakar “on a budget” and feel for yourself everything there is to feel when racing among some of the wildest landscapes in the world.

All jokes aside, this truly is the best way, the most affordable way to take on this challenge that is Dakar.

Always had a dream of Dakar, but are not totally sure what it holds?

The Dakar is a rally-raid. It consists of one stage per day comprising at least one “special stage” per day (often several hundred kilometres), sometimes off-road, on terrain without tracks (desert, etc.). The total distance covered is several thousand kilometres. The event takes place over a period of between 10-15 days (versus two to three days for cross-country rallies).

The classification of the stage is made up of the times set in the special stage, to which are added possible penalties.

The rallies use navigation, which is done via a roadbook provided by the organizers and distributed every evening at the finish of the stage, for the following stage on the next day. The rally-route remains a secret until the delivery of the roadbook to the competitors.

The start order of the special stages will be based on the times set in the Timed Sector, including Sporting Penalties (speed, missing Way Points) taken in the Timed Sector. In the case of a tie, the order will be determined by the race numbers.
