SRT is happy to share that N.Gryazin has returned to WRC2 with a brand new VW Polo R5 and SRT team of mechanics by his side.
SRT WRC team manager Arturs Priednieks: "The main task in this race was to show good speed and gain experience, because the changing conditions were big challenge for whole team and specially to crew.
N.Gryazin started very fast and convincingly, but after a few dangerous moments he reduced the speed a bit. The road surface here changes every meter and even the slightest mistake can end in withdrawal. As Nikolay said, he is very satisfied with the first and last day of the competition, but on the second and third day there were punctures and also the speed was not always sufficient enough to show top result. On the final day, the car's set up completely corresponded to Nikolay's driving style on these specific stages and this allowed TOP 3 results to be set in the WRC2 class. The day ended with a fastest time in the Power Stage among R5 cars and race was ended in P5 in RC2 class. As the finish line was achieved with very good results in these difficult conditions, we look forward to the next races, where we will try to fight for every point in the overall WRC2 season."
“I’m incredibly happy to be back in WRC2,” commented Gryazin. “I’m really excited to be in the Volkswagen Polo and continuing my collaboration with Konstantin.” N.Gryazin
This was a difficult, but successful rally for the team - even though we had to face many surprises along the way, but it is so exciting to be back to WRC.
"Rally Monte Carlo 2021 was a successful race for us as we managed to reach the finish line. On the first days we were searching for optimal pace and played with settings. Tyre choice was also challenging but in the end we realized that it was correct almost on each section. Two punctures on the third day cost us the fight for podium but we used our experience from the test in the final day and won powerstage in our class! No time to rest as Arctic Rally is next!" Nikolay finished in RC2 category in 5th place.
